St. Clare’s Convent – Kunlung

THE HISTORY OF  CLARE’S CONVENT, KUNLUNG

St. Clare’s Convent, affiliated to the Sisters of St. Aloysius and situated at the Catholic Church in Nyar Na Teik Pan Quarter, Kunlung, North Shan State, in the Diocese of Lashio, was opened on 8 July 1995, upon the invitation of Most Rev. Dr. Charles Bo to Rev. Mother Rosey. The main intention behind establishing this Convent was to uplift the Wa people and engage in evangelization to spread the message of Christianity.

The primary aim of St. Clare’s Convent is to carry out apostolic work among the Wa people. The leadership includes Sr. Maureen Lewis the Superior, Sr. Cecilia Zen and Sr. Ananthi. The Sisters are engaged in various ministries such as teaching catechism, nursery work, visiting families and the sick, church-related activities, and pastoral work in nearby villages.
