St. Mary’s Convent – Khampat

THE HISTORY OF ST. MARY’S CONVENT, KHAMPAT

St. Mary’s Convent, located at the Sacred Heart Church Campus, Block (2), Khampat, Sagaing Division, situated in the Diocese of Kalay, has a history rooted in the guidance of Most Rev. Dr. A. U Than Aung of Mandalay. Upon his suggestion and after consultation with the Councillors, the Sisters decided to establish a Convent. On 25 March 1993, Most Rev. Dr. A. U Than Aung solemnized and blessed the newly established Convent, named St. Aloysius Convent.

The primary goals of this Convent align with the motto of the Congregation: to assist poor families and children, run a Boarding School, and provide support to missions. The primary aim is to enhance the education of Chin Tribal Children. The Convent’s leadership includes Sr. Cecilia Dim the Superior, Sr. Esther Nem and Sr. Paschalina. The Sisters are involved in various ministries such as caring for both paid and free Boarding Children, visiting families and Hospitals, teaching catechism to children, preparing couples for marriage, conducting summer courses, parochial activities, and Nursery work.
