Ahmedpur – West Bengal

THE HISTORY OF AHAMADPUR – WEST BENGAL

The community in Ahamadpur was established in response to an invitation from Most Rev. Dr.  Cyprion Monis the Bishop of the Diocese of Asansol to collaborate with the Clergy in Evangelization, Education, and Social Ministries in Ahamadpur.

The idea of starting a new mission in West Bengal was discussed during a National Convention of “Small Christian Communities” attended by Rev. Sr. A. Mary Stella the Superior General and Sr. M. Louisa.

On 4 March 2014, Rev. Fr. Sarto accompanied the Sisters to Ahamadpur, where they visited Nirmal Hriday School and the proposed land for the Convent and the Hostel for the Tribal Girls.

The ministry officially began on 13 June 2014, with the blessings and prayers of the community and Church members.

The purpose of establishing the community was to contribute in the mission of Evangelization, Education, Care for Tribal Girls in the Hostel, Catechism, and Social Apostolate in Ahamadpur Parish.

The first community members were Sr. Maria Sironmani (the Superior and Hostel in -charge), Sr. Daisy, and Sr. Lourdu (Teaching Staff and is involved in Parish and Hostel Work).

The renovation of the community took place in 2014-2015.
