THE HISTORY OF PADOVA – ITALY

Name: Suore San.Luigi Gonzaga

Year of Establishment: 03/01/2006

Purpose of Establishment: To give new life to mentally and physically disabled children.

Present Ministry: Health Ministry and Social Activities

The community’s journey began in Ponsacco, Pisa, where Sr. Susan (Superior), Sr. Motcham, Sr. Auxilia, and Sr. Margreethamal were members of the old community. They, along with student sisters Sr. Kavitha, Sr. Jaculine, Sr. Celine, and Sr. Anitha, started a new chapter by moving from Ponsacco to Padua.

With the grace of God, the mission in Padua took shape through connections established by the sisters during their studies at Padua University. They found support from Mons. Don Segalla, a professor at the Padova Seminary, who facilitated their accommodation with various Italian congregations. The congregation had a desire to establish mission centers in Italy and shared this intention with Mother Bernadetta, the Superior General of the Elisabethan Sisters. Mons. Don Segalla, delighted by the initiative, suggested assisting in the health ministry of the diocese. The suggestion was warmly accepted by Mons. Antonio Mattiaso, the Bishop of Padua, and Mons. Don Roberto Bevilacqua, the director of OPSA, paving the way for the sisters to start their community in the Diocese of Padua.

Encouraged by Rev. Mother Sr. Noel Rani, the Superior General at that time, the sisters initiated their mission to care for mentally and physically challenged patients, aligning with the charism of their congregation and the spirit of their patron, St. Aloysius Gonzaga.
