THE HISTORY OF DILLENBURG – ST. LOUIS CONVENT
St. Louis Convent in Dillenburg was established on October 3rd, 2010, fulfilling the desire of Superior General Rev. Mother C. Maria Noel Rani to have a convent in the state of Hessen. The Bishop of the Diocese of Limburg, Rt. Rev. Franz Peter, welcomed the request and chose Dillenburg for the mission, recognizing the positive impact Catholic nuns could have on the town’s faith community.
The first community, led by Sr. Vedam as superior, was formed on August 30th, 2010, comprising six members. Three sisters served in the aged home while the others studied Geriatric Nursing. The community was officially founded and blessed on October 3rd, 2010, and their residence was blessed by Vicar General Msgr. Dr. Franz Kaspar.
The primary apostolate of the community is caring for the elderly, participating in regular prayers with the Catholic community, and engaging in pastoral work in the aged home. They provide valuable support during local bereavements, especially to the sick and lonely individuals. The sisters actively participate in church activities, distributing Holy Communion during the Holy Eucharist, and assisting with church decorations. Sr. Kulandai Theresa shares the Word of God with the elderly residents once a month.
Over the past ten years, the community has been grateful for God’s protection and guidance. They express their dedication to continue the mission, acknowledging both the challenges and joys they’ve experienced.
