THE HISTORY OF ST. MICHAEL CONVENT IN SULANAGAR
The presence of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Aloysius Gonzaga at Sulanagar began on 8 September 1980, in the 3 acres of land donated by the OCD Fathers, under the patronage of Rt. Rev. Thumma Joseph DD, the Bishop of Vijayawada, and Rev. Fr. Bernad, the then Parish Priest of Sulanagar.
Mother Barbara was the Superior General, and Sister Issaiyas Mary was the Assistant Superior General of the Congregation.
The first community members were Sr. Kulandai Therease (the Superior), Sr. Irudaya Mary, and Sr. Veda Nayagai. The initial focus of the Sisters was on Health Care and Social Work.
Sr. Kirshanthi joined on 10 January 1981, expanding the work to include Evangelization alongside Health Care and Social Work.
The Present Ministries include Education Ministry, Social Work, and Evangelization.
