THE HISTORY ST. FRANCIS ASSISI GOVT. AIDED HIGH SCHOOL, KURUSUKUPPAM
The school was established on January 14, 1939, by Rev. Sr. Pascal Mari as St. Francis Assisi Primary School. It was inaugurated by Most Rev. Dr. Ambrose, the then Archbishop of Puducherry, Cuddalore, on March 3, 1939. Over the years, the school progressed from primary to middle and then to high school. It received recognition for the 8th standard in 1977 and for the 10th standard in 1989.
Purpose: The school’s purpose was to serve the development of the fishermen community and orphanage students.
Important Events and Celebrations: The school hosts various events and celebrations, including team plays in the Indira Gandhi Stadium on August 15th each year. Government doctors conduct health check-ups, and the school actively works for the upliftment of the fishermen community. National and religious festivals are celebrated to instill moral and spiritual values in the students.
Renovation: The school building was whitewashed during the tenure of Rev. Sr. A. S. Lourdu Mary, and in 2016, both the school and creche underwent renovation with assistance from Savit France through ADET.
Current Leadership: Rev. Sr. U. Lourdu Mary is the current headmistress (2019-2022), overseeing the school’s systematic management in collaboration with the management and staff.
