THE HISTORY OF NIRMALA CONVENT, CHINNAPURI
The Nirmala Convent, located in the remote area of Chinnapuri, has a history dating back to 1988. The Sisters dedicated themselves to providing valuable services to the local community, including Evangelization, MCH Programmes, Education for Widows and Women. They initially resided in an old building and played a pivotal role in the lives of the people they served. A new Convent was inaugurated in 1993, symbolizing their commitment to the people, characterized by their closeness and sacrifice.
The Convent was established on July 14, 1993. The leadership included Most Rev. Dr. Innaiah DD and Rev. Sr. Lilly as the Superior at the time of establishment. Mother Nambikaimary served as the Superior General.
The initial community members during the establishment were Sr. Rajendra Mary, Sr. Assisi Mary, Sr. Mary Stella, Sr. Roslet Mary, and Sr. Theresa. Rev. Fr. Balaraj was the Parish Priest during the inauguration period.
Currently, the Convent is engaged in various ministries, including Education, Evangelization, Social Work, and Women’s Development Programmes.
