THE HISTORY OF LITTLE FLOWER CONVENT, MYLAVARAM
Little Flower Convent at Santhi Nagar, Mylavaram was inaugurated on 8 September 1979, by Most Rev. Joseph Thumma, the Bishop of Vijayawada, with the assistance of Rev. Fr. Joseph Iscariot, the Parish Priest and Fr. Swaminathan, the Assistant Parish Priest. The founding community members included Rev. Sr. Cosmasthine as the Superior, Sr. Mariyammal for Social Work, and Sr. Josphine Teresa for Health Care. The Convent aimed to uplift economically, socially, and spiritually the disadvantaged individuals by promoting Education, Health and Hygiene awareness.
The purpose of establishing the Convent was threefold:
- To spread the Gospel
- To provide Education to the illiterate
- To advocate for the voiceless
Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Thumma was the Bishop of Vijayawada during the establishment. Rev. Mother Barbara Mary served as the Superior General at the time of establishment, along with Rev. Sr. Issaiyas Mary as the Assistant Superior General. The Convent’s current ministries include Education, Social Work, and Evangelization.
