St. Michael’s Convent – Podhalakur

THE HISTORY OF ST. MICHAEL’S CONVENT, PODHALAKUR

In 1987, Sisters were invited to work in St. Michael’s School by Most Rev. Dr. Balaswamy, the Bishop of Nellore during the leadership of Mother Nambikai Mary the Superior General. Initially, the Sisters resided in the Rapur Convent. The year 1988 witnessed the establishment of a new community in Podhalakur for Education and Evangelization Ministries. In 1989, Bishop Balaswamy provided 1.75 acres of land to the Congregation, represented by Sr. C. Maria Noel Rani the Superior General. The Sisters agreed to undertake Catechetical, Evangelical, Educational, Social, and Medical work in Podalakur and the surrounding villages, with a focus on uplifting the poor and running a Boarding Home.

The first members of the community were Sr. Glory and Sr. Suviken.

At present the ministry revolves around Formation.
