Vazhvagam – Vakkampatty

THE HISTORY OF VAKKAMPATTY, DINDIGUL

The Vakkampatty, Dindigul community was established in accordance with the resolution of the Twenty-ninth General Chapter. The previous Mother General, Rev. Mother S. Noel Rani, requested permission from Most Rev. Anthony Pappusamy, the Bishop of Dindigul, to build an Evangelization center. The purpose of the center is to lead people to a life of discipleship of Christ by knowing and living the word of God and to form evangelical servants. The permission was granted on July 3, 2007.

A 5-acre and 3-cent land was purchased in Vakkampatty, Dindigul, from Mr. Prince and his brothers for the construction of the evangelization center. The pioneers of the community, Sr. Jerald, Sr. Alphonse, and Sr. Fatima, began their evangelization ministry by staying in a rented house.

The construction of the center, named “Vazhvagam,” started on April 4, 2009, and the foundation stone was laid by Most Rev. Anthony Pappusamy, the Bishop of Dindigul. The building contract was given to Mr. Jermanus, an engineer from Madurai. The center was blessed on November 7, 2010, by Most Rev. Anthony Pappusamy and inaugurated by Rev. Mother S. Noel Rani, the Superior General.

The center has conducted various activities, including training laypeople in evangelization with field experience, catechism classes, night vigils, adoration, youth meetings, Bible classes, lenten retreats, monthly meetings, and advent retreats. It has also celebrated important events such as the First Profession of evangelical ministers and the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

The community has been actively involved in supporting and helping those in need, including distributing groceries to Gypsies, barbers, and sweepers during the pandemic. They have also provided assistance to parishioners and arranged retreats and seminars for evangelical ministers.
