THE HISTORY OF ST. ALOYSIUS CONVENT

History of the Convent: The idea to start a convent in Thirupoondi was proposed by Fr. Philasis in 1987, and with permission from the Bishop of Thanjavur and Arch Bishop of Pondicherry, the convent was established. The initial accommodation and livelihood needs were managed by the sisters themselves, and they began their evangelization work in Thirupoondi and surrounding areas.

The St. Aloysius Convent carries out evangelization and education ministries, visiting houses regardless of caste, religion, or language to meet people. The sisters also started tailoring classes and a dispensary for medical facilities, focusing on serving the needs of the community. The convent continues its work in Thirupoondi, Kameswaram, Vettaikaraniruppu, and other areas, with a dedication to spiritual life and community service.
