Saint Louis Convent – Thensiruvallur

THE HISTORY OF SAINT LOUIS CONVENT, THENSIRUVALLUR

Saint Louis Convent in Thensiruvallur was established on April 7, 1941, in response to the request of Rev. Fr. Dhelbrace. The first community members were sisters Bernadith, Abel Mari, and Ubagara Mari, who temporarily stayed in a poorly thatched house in the village. The mission aimed to teach catechism and moral education to the villagers, resulting in around 70 families being catechized and baptized into the Catholic Church.

Through the hard work of the sisters, the number of students in the school gradually increased, leading to government approval for higher classes. The need for more classrooms became apparent, and with the efforts of Rev. Fr. Pentecost, five acres of land were purchased and the Saint Louis Convent was built on July 27, 1990, during the golden jubilee year of the congregation.

The present members of the community include Sr. Regina Mary,Superior, Sr. Chinnammal, Sr. Elisa, Sr. Delphi, and Sr. Gnana Soundari. Their ministries include teaching catechism, altar decoration, marriage preparation classes, choir practice, weekly house visits, evangelization, and providing education to underprivileged children.

The community celebrates various feasts and events grandly, including the feast of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga, St. Anne, Saint Francis of Assisi, Christmas, New Year, and Saint Joseph.
