St. Joseph Higher Secondary School – Pagalpatty

THE HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTION

St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Pagalpatty, was established on December 7, 2006, under the leadership of Rev. Mother C. Noel Rani. The purpose of its establishment was to provide Higher Secondary School Education to students. The school’s journey began in 1996 when it started as a teacher training institute in the St. Joseph Higher Secondary School campus in Suramangalam. Due to certain conditions imposed by the Government, the teacher training institute was later shifted to Pagalpatty. To cater to the needs of the kids, Sisters Sr. Babtista and Sr. Madhalen Mary purchased 8 acres of land.

The school’s growth was gradual, starting with a L.K.G. school that aimed to be a model school for the teacher training institute. Over the years, the school progressed, adding one class at a time, until it functioned up to 8th grade in 2004-2005. Facing challenges, the General Mother Noel Rani ensured the acquisition of the school area. The first set of 10th-grade students appeared for the public exam as private candidates. By 2005, the school received recognition as a high school, and the 10th-grade students wrote their exams as regular students in 2006. Eventually, the school was upgraded to a higher secondary school.

The existing building was constructed and inaugurated by Most Rev. Mother General Noel Rani and Rev. Bishop Singarayan. The higher secondary school started with 20 girls, and soon after, 17 more girls joined in different streams. The school has been achieving 100% results in the XI and XIIth grades consistently.

PRESENT STATUS: At present, the school has 401 students and is served by 13 teachers and 4 non-teaching staff members. The students are provided with a well-rounded education that emphasizes moral values and discipline.

IMPORTANT EVENTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS:

  • The approval for the higher secondary school was obtained from the government, making it the only Tamil medium school run by the congregation with self-financing.
  • Despite challenges, the school continues to thrive, offering standardized education at affordable fees, benefiting hundreds of students each year.
  • The school received financial support during the tenure of Rev. Mother Mary Stella, the General Superior. This support was utilized to construct 15 toilets and urinals for students and teachers, install a grill gate at the entrance, and purchase 50 desks and benches for classrooms. Labs are equipped regularly for practical exams, and teachers receive their salaries promptly.
  • The management maintains a school van and two-wheeler for transportation purposes.
  • Various celebrations and competitions are organized throughout the year, including Women’s Day, Children’s Day, Teachers’ Day, Independence Day, Republic Day, and many others. Prizes are awarded to students for their achievements.

St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Pagalpatty, continues to be a beacon of quality education, providing students with a nurturing environment and opportunities for their holistic development.
