St. Aloysius Illam – Pagalpatty

THE HISTORY OF ST. ALOYSIUS ILLAM – PAGALPATTY

St. Aloysius Illam, Pagalpatty is a community that was established with the purpose of evangelization and education. It was founded on April 5, 2006, and the Superior General at the time of establishment was Rev. Mother C. Noel Rani. The community primarily focuses on education as its present ministry.

The first community members of St. Aloysius Illam were Sr. Cassian and Sr. Conception. Under the leadership of Rev. Mother C. Noel Rani, the community aimed to spread the word of God to the pagans and provide education to the rural poor children. In line with this mission, St. Joseph School was started on December 7, 2006, and it was later upgraded to a Higher Secondary School.

In 2019, the community underwent a renovation and extension to support the new ministry proposed, which was to start an Arts and Science College for Women. The blessing of the renovated house was carried out by Rev. Fr. Xavier, and Most Rev. Singaroyan, in the presence of Rev. Mother G. Rajamani. This extension marked the realization of the dream to provide higher education to rural women.

The Arts and Science College for Women at St. Aloysius Illam was officially blessed by Most Rev. Arul Selvam Rayappan, the Bishop of Salem, on August 11, 2021. It received approval from the Government of Tamil Nadu on September 8, 2021, and was affiliated with the Periyar University in Salem on October 11, 2021.

The community of St. Aloysius Illam is involved in various ministries, including evangelization, social work, and education. Their aim is to empower young women and underprivileged children through quality education, enabling them to reach new heights.
