Infant Jesus Convent – Sethiyathope

THE HISTORY OF INFANT JESUS CONVENT, SETHIYATHOPE

Infant Jesus Convent in Sethiyathope was established on 20.01.2002 by the General Team of the congregation and Province Sisters. With the approval of the Archbishop Most Rev. Dr. Michael Augustine, the construction work for the convent began. The inauguration of the convent took place on 01.06.2002, blessed by the Arch-Bishop and attended by the Mother General Rev. Sr. Noel Rani. The parishioners of Thurinjikollai welcomed and honored Asst. General Sr. Francisca, who explained the congregation’s charism and ministry to be carried out in Sethiyathope.

The community was officially started on 06.06.2002 with Sr. Alodi, Sr. Charles, and Sr. Chinnammal as the initial members. Sr. Alodi served as the superior and worked as a teacher in Thurinjikollai, while Sr. Chinnammal worked as a teacher in Chinnanergunam, and Sr. Charles was in charge of the hospital.

The Infant Jesus Church was blessed on 20.11.2002, and the hospital was inaugurated by the Superior General, Rev. Sr. Noel Rani. Medical equipment, including an X-ray machine and a scanning machine, were acquired for the hospital. A Maruti jeep was purchased for medical emergencies on 19.08.2003.

The community engaged in various activities, including education, evangelization, and house visits. Plans were made to offer tailoring courses and counseling for women, and a physiotherapy clinic was to be started by Sr. Daisy.

The sisters continue to selflessly serve the people in Sethiyathope, dedicating themselves to the ministry and the community’s betterment.
