St. Louis Convent – Nanguneri

THE HISTORY OF ST. LOUIS CONVENT, NANGUNERI

St. Louis Convent in Nangunery was established on 23rd September 1979 with the purpose of evangelization, education, and social work. The Superior General at the time of establishment was Mother Barbara Mary.

The community is actively involved in evangelization and social work. They work in 10 different villages, conduct VBS classes, organize biblical conferences, and actively participate in parish activities.

The community also runs a home for disabled children in Tirunelveli, which was started on 27th July 1981 with 10 children. Currently, they are caring for 25 disabled individuals who actively participate in competitions and win prizes.

The first community members were Sr. Baptist Mary (Snapaka Mary), Sr. Lourdu Mary, Sr. Arockia James, Sr. Kasiyan, and Sr. Jesu Mary.

On 27th December 2019, Osana Anbu Illam was renovated in a grand manner, and the St. Louis building was also renovated after 40 years with permission from the Mother General and the Provincial.
