St. Louis Convent – Melnariappanur

THE HISTORY OF  ST. LOUIS CONVENT, MELNARIAPPANUR

The report provides details about the St. Louis Convent in Melnariappanur, which is under the Archdiocese of Pondicherry – Cuddalore. The community was established on 1st July 1980, with Rev. Mother Barbara Mary as the Superior General. The primary purpose of establishment was for church work, and the community is currently involved in church work, school work, boarding, and stall work.

Important events in the community’s history include the purchase of 86.5 cents of land for Rs. 12,300 and its registration in the name of the Superior. In 1990, a BSNL landline connection was installed, and in 1999, the community received assistance to buy a two-wheeler, an EXCEL SUPER, from the MIVA Austria organization.

Subsequently, a boarding facility for school-going students was started in 2001, and a 600 feet deep bore well was dug in 2003. Another bore well was dug in 2016, this time reaching a depth of 1040 feet. In 2017, the convent building underwent renovation with support from the province and foreign funds.
