St. Louis Convent – Madurantakam

THE HISTORY OF  ST. LOUIS CONVENT, MADURANTAKAM

The community was established in 1971 with four sisters to teach spoken English to students in need. They initially lived in a small rented house at Theradi street in Madurantakam. In 1972, the sisters expanded their ministry to include social and pastoral work in nearby parishes. The main purpose was to educate and enlighten children in English. In 1982, the congregation, with the collaboration of Rev. Sr. Dennis Mary, purchased land from the Archdiocese of Madras and Mylapore to establish their own property. The sisters moved to their present location in St. Joseph’s Primary School in 1984, where they live and work.
