St. Francis Convent – Karanur

THE HISTORY OF ST. FRANCIS CONVENT, KARANUR

In 1939, sisters from Ulagankathan started coming to Karanur to provide education and evangelize. People recognized the value of their teaching, and their small hut became a place of education. In 1940, around a hundred people converted to Christianity and got baptized. A community was built in 1943, with sisters teaching at the school during the day and conducting other community activities. The school grew, and the sisters were appreciated for their evangelization and education efforts.

Several developments occurred over the years, including the establishment of a sacred heart portrait, building expansions, purchasing land, and conducting various community events and celebrations. The community continued to serve the people, offering education, comfort to the sick, and catechism classes. They also worked with orphanages and promoted social awareness.
