St. Louis Convent – Eral, Tuticorin

THE HISTORY OF ST. LOUIS CONVENT, ERAL

St. Louis Convent in Eral was established on 03.07.1978. The purpose of the community was to educate the poor, engage in evangelization, and teach catechism to the people. The Superior General at the time of establishment was Rev. Mother Barbara Mary, and the bishop was Rev. Dr. Ambrose DD.

Over the years, the community faced some challenges with replacements and lost spots in certain schools, but they continued their ministries of education and evangelization.

The first community members were Rev. Sr. Boonipash Mary, Rev. Sr. Pragacy, Rev. Sr. Amali, and Rev. Sr. Epiphany.

Several renovations and blessings took place over the years, including the blessing of the house for education and evangelization in 1978, purchasing land in 1980, and completing the construction of the convent building in 1982.

In 2019, the Vanuva Chettiyar Illam was renovated with the support of Rev. Sr. Gnanamai, the provincial, and is now used for evangelization.
