St. Louis Convent – Aravakurichi

THE HISTORY OF ST. LOUIS CONVENT IN ARAVAKURICHI

St. Louis Convent in Aravakurichi was established on 08.06.1976 in the substation of Aravakurichi, Chinna Dharapuram parish, with the efforts of Rev. Fr. Carmel Irudhayam. The first community members were Sr. Aloysius Mary, Sr. Rajesh Mary, Sr. Vimala Mary, and Sr. Rose Mary. Initially, they ran a nursery school, a tailoring institute, and a dispensary, but due to limited beneficiaries, the dispensary and nursery school were closed. The diocese of Coimbatore provided two teaching posts in the elementary school on 06.06.1988. The convent later acquired 25 cents of land and a new convent was built, blessed by Most Rev. Dr. L. Thomas Aquinas on 11.04.2007.

The purpose of the establishment was to focus on health and care, catechism, education, and leading the faithful in the life of the Sacraments. The convent continues to serve in the fields of religious instructions, social work, and education.

At the time of the establishment, Mother Barbara Mary was the Superior General, and the establishment was permitted by Archbishop Visuvasam. The parish priest at the time of establishment was Rev. Fr. Carmel Irudhayam. The convent underwent renovation on 09-10-2016.
