In 1981, the sisters started coming to St. Matthias School in Uppalam and proposed to establish a convent in Thirupoondi to serve the local community.

With permission from the Arch Bishop, the sisters resided in a small hut and later built a new convent in 1985.

The convent began accommodating orphaned, marginalized, and underprivileged children, providing them with education and support for their upliftment.

Pastoral work was also conducted, including house visits, prayer for the sick, and involvement in church-related services.

The St. Matthias School has grown from a primary school to a high secondary school, providing education and training in moral and spiritual values, as well as academic excellence.

The sisters also engage in part-time pastoral work, including house visits, communion distribution, conducting catechism classes, altar flower decoration, and cleaning in and around the church.

The first community members in 1984:

Sr. Bambina: Superior & Headmistress

Mother Joan of Arc: Praying sister

Sr. Maria Therese: School

Sr. Mary Joyce: School

The St. Francis Xavier Convent has been serving the community through education and evangelization, striving to uplift the underprivileged and provide them with spiritual and educational support.
