St. Aloysius Gonzaga Convent – Kallakurichi

THE HISTORY OF ST. ALOYSIUS GONZAGA CONVENT, KALLAKURICHI 

The community was established on June 7th, 1969, with the authorization of Most Rev. Ambrose, Bishop of Pondicherry and Cuddalore. The primary purpose was to serve in the Education Ministry of R.C. Middle School in Kallakurichi. Rev. Mother Dennis Mary, the Superior General, oversaw the establishment. Sisters were invited to serve in education and evangelization missions by Rev. Fr. Gnanadikkam, the parish priest of Kallakurichi. 

A hut house was built behind the church on June 29, 1975, with blessings from Dr. Most Rev. Selvanathan, the Bishop of Pondicherry and Cuddalore. In 1980, a new convent was established and blessed by the same bishop, serving the educational and evangelization needs of Kallakurichi. 

Name of the Superior General at the time of Establishment: Rev. Mother Dennis Mary. 

Year of Establishment: Small hut house – 29.06.1975. New convent – 16.01.1980.

Purpose of Establishment:

I st: Education Ministry, Evangelization catechetical mission.

II nd: Education Ministry, Evangelization catechetical mission, Social work. 

Present Ministry:

Sister working in DOS Middle School – Kallakurichi.

Sister working in St. Joseph Higher Secondary School – Ulagankathan.

Evangelization catechetical mission. 

Important Events in the Community:

The community celebrates the feast of their patron, St. Aloysius Gonzaga, together. They also celebrate birthdays or feast days of the sisters and go on an annual outing or picnic. Monthly visits to St. Antony Shrine – Melnariyappanur are part of their routine.

Rev. Sr. Agatha Mary (Superior), Rev. Sr. Alphonse Mary (Praying sister), Rev. Sr. Vimala Mary (Nursery School Teacher), Rev. Sr. Emerencia (R.C. Middle school Teacher).
