THE HISTORY OF DIVINE MERCY CONVENT,  TAMU

Divine Mercy Convent, situated in Tamu within the Tamu Diocese, has a history marked by the efforts of various Sisters. In 1994, Sr. Evarista laid the foundation by meeting the Superior General in Moreh, and her efforts were followed by the decision of Sr. A. Cecilia (the Regional Superior), Sr. Cecilia Dim, and Sr. Bibiana Baby to purchase land in Tamu in 1997. The land was eventually purchased by Sr. Mary Gloria (the Provincial Superior) and Sr. Mary Flora in 2000. On 15 August 2002, Most Rev. Nicholas Mang Thang and Parish Priest Fr. Michael Kham solemnized and blessed the new convent. The Divine Mercy Convent is affiliated with the Sisters of St. Aloysius and is located at St. Peter’s Church, Saw Bwa Inn (2) Quarter, Tamu, Sagaing Division.

The main aim of Divine Mercy Convent is to care for the Students from the nearby villages and maintain the relationship with the Congregation. The leadership team consists of Sr. Josephine Rani the Superior, Sr. Agnes Peter and Sr. Rose Mary Man. The sisters are engaged in various ministries including managing the Boarding section, Parochial Activities, Teaching Catechism, Visiting Nearby Villages, Participating in Youth Camps, and Visiting Families and the sick.
