St. Louis De Gonzaga Convent – Pitchatur

THE HISTORY OF PITCHATUR

The history St. Louis De Gonzaga Convent – Pitchatur commenced with the mission of extending services in the Diocese of Kadapa, focusing on Evangelization among the marginalized communities. The initial members, included Sr. Velankanni and Sr. Noel Rani, who arrived along with Novices and engaged in fruitful Evangelization Work after visiting villages.

The establishment of the Convent involved the purchase of 18 cents of land, costing a total of Rs. 7 lakhs. The Bishop of the Diocese of Kadapa contributed 5 lakhs, and the Provincial Superior, Rev. Mother Francisca, provided 2 lakhs for the construction. The Convent was officially inaugurated on 6 September 1994, with the Holy Eucharistic celebration in the presence of Rev. Mother Nambikai Mary the Superior General and other Dignitaries.

The purpose of the Convent primarily revolves around Evangelization Work. Notable Bishops of the Diocese of Kadapa during its existence include Most Rev. Mallavarapu Prakash, Most Rev. M. D. Prakasm, Most Rev. Gallale Prasad, and Most Rev. Gali Bali (Apostolic Administrator).

The first community members included Sr. Maria Theresa as the Superior and Sr. Maria Pushpam.

Presently, the Sisters are engaged in Evangelization Ministry, Social Work, and run a Tuition Centre.  The Convent is known as “Ansaldo Seva Sadan,” which was inaugurated on 28 June 2000, by Most Rev. Mallavarapu Prakash and Rev. Mother Francisca, the Andhra Provincial Superior.
