St. Joseph Convent – Madurantakam

THE HISTORY OF ST. JOSEPH CONVENT, MADURANTAKAM

Year of Establishment: 1989.

Purpose: The community was established to address the lack of space for students in the primary school campus. A new land was bought near the railway station, and a new building was constructed to accommodate students from VI to XII standard. The new building also provided convenience for academic work.

First Community Members:

Rev. Sr. Anuciya, Rev. Sr. Anthonyamal, Rev. Sr. Magimai Rani

Present Ministry: Education, Catechism, Preparation for marriage, Church work in Parish and substations (e.g., Holy Mass, Altar decoration, Flower arrangements)

Special Events: The community engaged in various activities, including visiting the body of St. Xavier in Goa, providing flood donations for poor people, conducting retreats for school students and poor people, and offering assistance to the needy during the COVID-19 lockdown.

New Convent: A new convent building was constructed with all facilities at a cost of Rs. 50,0000. The foundation stone was laid on 29.05.2015, and the new house was inaugurated on 20.04.2016 by Chengalpattu Bishop Most Rev. Dr. A. Nithinathan in the presence of Provincial Mother Rev. Mother  G. Rajamani, followed by Eucharistic celebration.
