THE HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTION

Gonzaga College of Arts and Science for Women is a rural higher education institution situated in the tranquil rural area known as Kathampallam, within the Krishnagiri Block of Krishnagiri District, Tamil Nadu. Administered by the Franciscan Sisters of St. Aloysius Gonzaga, a Catholic religious order established in 1775 AD at Pondicherry, the college aims to empower women from marginalized backgrounds and provide them with opportunities for development and higher education.

Vision: To holistically develop young women for rural social progress.

Programs Offered: Affiliated with Periyar University, Salem, the college offers various courses to ensure upward progression and employability for women.

Infrastructural Facilities: The college is committed to holistic development and offers essential infrastructural facilities such as classrooms, laboratories, library, auditorium, sports and games amenities, healthcare center, transportation, and residential facilities for staff and students.

University Ranks / Centum Holders: Through relentless efforts of the faculty, the college has achieved commendable academic results, with around 354 students scoring centum marks in various subjects in the university examinations.

Mission Possible: The college focuses on molding responsible women who are actively involved in extension service activities, reaching out to the underprivileged in the neighborhood for their holistic development.

Socially Responsible Women: The college promotes social concern and responsibility through student participation in extracurricular activities and extension service units. It also actively engages in humanitarian efforts to support victims of natural disasters.

National Assessment and Accreditation of the College: The college was accredited by NAAC with a B Grade in 2016, maintaining its high standards.

Impact of Gonzaga – Early Marriage Eradication: The college’s efforts have significantly reduced the early marriage rate of girl children in the region from 24% to 4%, making a positive impact on the lives of young women in Krishnagiri District.
