St. Louis Convent – Vazhapady

THE HISTORY OF ST. LOUIS CONVENT – VAZHAPADY

St. Louis Convent in Valappady, Salem, was established in 1980 with the help of Rev. Fr. Selva Rathinam (Parish priest) and Fr. A. Kolash. The community, initially located in Thumbal, shifted to Valappady in the parish compound. The first members of the community were Sr. Maria Stella (Superior), Sr. Parimala, Sr. Michael Rani, and Sr. Mary Viyakulam. In December 1980, they purchased 3.18 acres of land for the convent. Most Rev. Fr. Michael Bosco Duraisamy, the Bishop of Salem Diocese, blessed the convent. The primary purpose of the convent is education ministry, and Evangelization ministry was started in January 1981 under the leadership of Sr. Sagaya Rani. The community continues its ministries in education and evangelization at present.
