ROCK HOME HISTORY
The St. Rock School was run by our F.S.A.G Congregation Sisters since 1945 as an Elementary School for the fishermen children.During the 2014 Tsunami the school was closed because after the tsunami, the Govt. erected a perimeter wall to prevent the waves from sea shore. Due to the decreased student attendance the school was therefore closed. Thereafter C.F.C.A. programme was held in St. Rock Home headed by Rev. Sr. Vailankanni from time to time and that was also discontinued in the year of 2013. The St. Rock School key washanded over to the provincial Rev.Sr.Rajamani at the end of the panikuzhu members meeting held on July-2013 at the Generalate.It was also discussed in the Provincial team meeting held on August-2013 that we could start a boarding and accomodate the girls in that place.In the month of august, it was also discussed in the uppalam community meeting and the cleaning work took place.The cost of the cleaning work expenses wereprovided by St. Xavier Cottage, St. Francis Xavier Creche and St. Mathia’s Hr. Sec School.
The provincial team meeting was held on November2013 and it was decided by the team that St. Rock School name will be changed into Shalom St Rock Home.On 01.06.2014 Shalom St Rock Home wasinaugurated in the presence of then Rev. Mother Mary Stella Superior General and Rev. Mother Rajamani, Provincial. And it was maintained by the Province Educational counsellor Sr. D. Rosammal being the in charge of Shalom St Rock Home and Sr. Epiphany and Sr. Florance were the community members.
Since 2014,this house was functioning as a branch house of Uppalam and we decide to keep Eucharist mass in our Home. Rev. Fr. Maria Joseph was a rector of the Sacred Heart Basilica and we talked about the Eucharist to be held in our home and the permission was granted by the Most.Rev.Bishop Antony Anandarayar and the Eucharist Mass was held on 25.03.2014 and it was attended by all the sisters and from the nearby communities.
The new building where the girls were staying was built by the following Donors Mr.Burno Germany Rs.4,00,000/-known by Sr. Flarance an acquittance of Elias, known to Sister Rose gave Rs.3,00,000/- , The adopted Child Motcharakini from Germany donated Rs.75,000/-for Tiles Other expenses given by the Provincial Rev.Mother Rajamani. the renovated new building was opened on 2017 with the Holy Mass.
Metal Sheets were erected on the top of church area and the sister’s dormitory. on 2018 the amount was spent from our home. In June 2018 this home divided into separate home Superior was Rev. Sr.D.Rosammal and community members were Sr. Florence & Sr. Regina Mary.Drainage facility was setup in the year 2019 the cost Rs.1.50,000/- has been given by Rev. Mother Provincial Lilly Grace. And metal sheets were placed on the right side of church for student’s study purpose corporation water connection was taken in the year 2020 and whole house has been painted and also the girl’s toilet was renovated. In the year 2021 solar lights were installed in the church, girls study area and in dining room.
The purpose of the home to keep the 10th ,11th ,12thstudents and to send them to congregation those who wish to join as nuns in our congregation,so far 3 girls have become sister’s at present 2 girls are in the formation home they are provided free education and accommodation they will be also helped when they join in our congregation. It is an opportunity for us to experience God’s presence with the calm atmosphere clen air and natural environment.
