THE HISTORY OF ST. LOUIS CONVENT
St. Louis Convent in Pandiyankulam, Gingee Taluka, was established on 1st August 1984 by Mr. Vincent de Paul, who started a woman’s association to uplift the oppressed Arundhatiyar community. The convent’s main aim was to provide education to the underprivileged girls in the area. After Mr. Vincent de Paul’s demise, Mr. Graga Selvamani took charge, and later, the administration was handed over to St. Aloysius Gonzaga in Pondicherry.
The convent faced challenges, but with the help of Gonzaga Management and the dedication of the Sisters, it steadily grew. The Sisters engaged in spreading the gospel and providing education to the students. Several events, including the foundation stone laying and blessings of buildings, were conducted, graced by the presence of church authorities and local community members.
Over the years, the convent saw transfers of Sisters and continued its ministry of education, prayer, and helping the poor. Retreats, cultural events, and celebrations like Pongal and village festivals were organized to nurture the spiritual life of the children and local community. Daily house visits and prayers were held, and assistance was provided to those in need.
