St. Joseph Convent – Mugaiyur

THE HISTORY OF  ST. JOSEPH’S CONVENT – MUGAIYUR

St. Joseph’s Convent in Mugaiyur was established on 15th March 2003 with four sisters. The community aimed to run a school and boarding facility for the welfare of girls in the society. Initially, there was no separate residency for the sisters, so they lived with the boarders in the school premises. However, with the help of benefactors, including St. Peter Clavier Sisters from Rome and Germany mission, they raised funds amounting to Rs. 1,75,267 and Rs. 1,32,788, respectively, to erect a new building for the convent. The construction work was done through the cooperation and collaboration of the sisters. The new building, St. Joseph’s Convent, was blessed and inaugurated on 23rd March 2006 by Rev. Mother Noel Rani.

The community is currently comprised of four members: Sr. Bernadeth (Superior), Sr. Francisca (Headmistress of St. Joseph’s Girls Higher Secondary School), Sr. Sagaya Pauline Lilly (Boarding In-Charge), and Sr. Emily Mary (Teacher, Science BT). Their ministry focuses on education, particularly in the higher secondary school and boarding for girls.
