St. Louis Convent – Villianur

THE HISTORY OF ST. LOUIS CONVENT,  VILLIANUR

The report provides information about St. Louis Convent in Villianur Post, Puducherry, which was established on September 7, 1962. It was founded to preach the gospel, take care of the elderly, manage a working women’s hostel, and run an LKG and UKG school. The community started with Mother Superior Maria Prakasiammal and four other sisters.

Over the years, the convent underwent renovations in 1992 to improve its facilities. The present ministry includes looking after the residents of an old age home, managing a stall, and conducting various religious activities such as baptism, holy communion, and marriage classes. They also run LKG and UKG classes.

Important events in the community include celebrating Christmas, the feast of St. Aloysius Gonzaga, church feasts, Our Lady of Lourdes feast, and the birthdays and feasts of the sisters.

The current members of the community are Sr. Isacc (Old Age Home In-charge), Sr. Philominal (Rest), Sr. Alphonsa Mary (LKG, UKG In-charge), Sr. Deepa (Stall duty), and Sr. Anusiya (Studying).

The community’s initial purpose of education and caregiving for the elderly remains its focus in the present day, as they continue their work in the school and old age home.
